Ph.D. ’82 (College of Science and Engineering)
Alumni Association Life Member
Eric Kaler received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering in 1982. After academic and administrative positions at the University of Washington, University of Delaware, and Stony Brook University, he returned to the University of Minnesota in 2011 as the 16 th president. His wife, Karen Kaler, has been with him along the way, working as a graphic designer. They currently live in Eastcliff, the official residence of the university. Karen was rocking their infant granddaughter, Ophelia, when it occurred to her that a story about Eastcliff, a tale she had heard and been asked to retell many times, would be a delightful children’s book. Eric fell in love with Rusty’s story and suggested that they publish the book under their own imprint, Amma Books. Through Amma Books they intend to publish books that bring delight to children, parents, and grandparents while directing proceeds to do good.
