About Jim Tisel Ph.D. LLC
I provide math and physics tutoring for students grades 4 through the first year of college, as well as mentoring for beginning math and science teachers. I also run math and physics camps. Tutoring takes place at Quixotic Coffee in Highland Park.
My background includes a lot of experience teaching IB and AP math and physics courses, as well as middle school classes.

About Jim
Jim Tisel has been teaching and coaching for over 40 years, including two decades teaching abroad in Germany, the Netherlands, and Scotland. He has taught courses that span from sixth grade mathematics to Advanced Placement Physics C. Jim has taught mathematics at the University of St. Thomas, has served as a high school physics teacher and a middle school math and science teacher at St. Paul Academy and Summit School, and has been a high school physics instructor at Holy Family Catholic High School. He was an assistant examiner for the IB organization for 18 years.
Jim has also coached basketball and golf for a range of ages and is fascinated by the student inquiry process. Jim holds a Ph.D. in Science Education, an M.A. in Mathematics Education, and a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics (Education) from the University of Minnesota. Jim's Ph.D. dissertation was an ethnographic study of students engaged in the science inquiry process.
He has recent experience as a tutor, teacher mentor, and teacher of summer mathematics and science enrichment courses. Jim is a supportive, helpful tutor, with a deep awareness of the math and science landscape that students will experience.
